I had read this previously, and pretty much don't use intervals or have animated gifs on display when hidden.
Nelson made a good point in suggesting onHide to destroy the xmlhtpp request object which I am going to investigate

I had planned a followup article that gave some of the particulars as to what actually resides in memory on a widget, why the same widgets have different footprints on different systems, and why basic "Hello World" widgets sometimes take more memory than widgets that actually present an interface and functionality. Unfortunately I only got silence from Apple on the subject, and I'm not smart enough to figure these things out on my own with Object Meter.
So, hope it's of some use, but don't hold your breath for the sequel.
