Re: Widgets with iPhone?

And he's not.

If it's really OS X (technology) under the hood, the we have memory protection and all those other nice things.
If the user is allowed to install widgets, then so be it, and the widget might 'crash' but so what. It's been years since I've had a phone that did not crash from time to time - so if the iPhone, with protected memory, crash a widget so what - the phone should not crash - and that is way better than every other phone on the planet.

If widgets are safe in OS X on my Mac, where I have important files open i PS, BBEdit, Mail, iCal etc, why should they not be o the iPhone?

Besides, if the i[Smart]Phone can't be extended by the customers, it's not gonna sell to the corporate area, and that is a huge mistake if you ask me...

I guess the following quotes from the big man himself in today's NY
Times, tells us a lot about whether folks will be able to load up
their iPhones with lots of custom widgets. Sounds like a big
"probably not"....

From: http://tinyurl.com/yyab7m
“We define everything that is on the phone,” [Jobs] said. “You don’t
want your phone to be like a PC. The last thing you want is to have
loaded three apps on your phone and then you go to make a call and it
doesn’t work anymore. These are more like iPods than they are like
computers.”

“These are devices that need to work, and you can’t do that if you
load any software on them,” he said. “That doesn’t mean there’s not
going to be software to buy that you can load on them coming from us.
It doesn’t mean we have to write it all, but it means it has to be
more of a controlled environment.”
