Re: Widgets with iPhone?

Hi,

And he's right ;-)

Reminds me on the two rules

1) the boss is always right
2) if he isn‘t, rule number one is valid

Well, I think he‘s not. If he where, then we wouldn‘t be allowed to load up software to our Macs because they‘re also „devices that need to work“. The whole point is (imho): I most probably won‘t pay such a huge amount of money for a device I can‘t extend on myself and as I want to without paying (probably) lots of money for additional software. I just think that the price is much too high for it to only be a phone with more or less the same functionality as a usual smartphone.

One very good example I could think of is Safari. If I use it on the iPhone I would like to have to possibility to exlcude flash-content for example, like it is possible in Safari today with plugins. Or what about widgets to display all sorts of information? That is what makes the iPhone really interesting.

Greetings,

Stephan

I guess the following quotes from the big man himself in today's NY
Times, tells us a lot about whether folks will be able to load up
their iPhones with lots of custom widgets. Sounds like a big
"probably not"....

From: http://tinyurl.com/yyab7m
“We define everything that is on the phone,” [Jobs] said. “You don’t
want your phone to be like a PC. The last thing you want is to have
loaded three apps on your phone and then you go to make a call and it
doesn’t work anymore. These are more like iPods than they are like
computers.”

“These are devices that need to work, and you can’t do that if you
load any software on them,” he said. “That doesn’t mean there’s not
going to be software to buy that you can load on them coming from us.
It doesn’t mean we have to write it all, but it means it has to be
more of a controlled environment.”
