Re: Why aren't developers raving mad about the iPhone's locks?

Possibly they will move to a games console like licensing model where the developer/publisher has to pay Apple for the right to sell the software for the iPhone. This would keeping a high level of quality control on the situation and they would make money from other peoples software. Would be a good idea if it meant for a reduction in the price of the hardware. But I doubt anyone making enough money make a significant difference as primarily it will be used as a phone and iPod. Although it does bring up the possibility that they could sell music with this kind of licence on it to make the hardware cheaper or all three, phone contract, application licences and music licences.

Would be strange for them to not to introduce it immediately but maybe they have some tricks up their sleeves still. The same could go for TV too.

I think the tone will change though. Eventually the iPhone and iPod are going to become platforms (OS X mobile or light or whatever) where folks can actually install stuff. At the very least I think Apple will allow a sandbox where their favorite developers can get in on the action.

This strikes me as a pretty likely scenario. The part about only favored developers being able to get in on the action would be sad, though. Why not have some kind of certification program that ensures that apps/widgets are Apple Phone worthy?
