XMLHttpRequest and untrusted SSL certificates...

Thomas Bouve asked this back in July 2005 but I haven't been able to find a
response in the archives, and his email is hidden, so I thought I would ask
again.

Is there any way to use an XMLHttpRequest object to retrieve data from an
HTTPS URL when the server's certificate is not trusted for some reason
(self-signed certificates, expired certificate, etc).

I am running against a development server that has a self-signed certificate
(and its CN does not always equal the hostname it is running on).

I get back a status code of -1202 or -1203 when trying to talk to these
servers.

Any pointers?
