Growl notifications + copy & paste

After reading Andrew Hedges article on Sending Growl notifications from Dashboard widgets (http://andrew.hedges.name/blog/2009/03/14/sending-growl-notifications-from-dashboard-widgets ), which suggests the use of a shell script to check for the existence of GrowlHelperApp followed by the execution of an AppleScript to initiate the actual Growl notifications, I've run into a problem whereby notifications will hit a bottleneck if sent too rapidly.

Debugging shows that the shell script which checks for the existence of GrowlHelperApp is successful for each and every Growl notification. It's the execution of the AppleScript which seems to fail. After contacting Mr. Hedges, he suggested that Dashboard may be having problems running multiple instances of osascript though widget.system, and further suggested I post here in the hopes that someone can shed some light on the issue?

Furthermore, I've been having problems allowing users to copy and paste text from within my widget. I'm trying to add the ability to select, copy and paste text within the body of my widget (which is just HTML contained within a ScrollArea). I've tried adding pasteboard handlers as suggested in the Dashcode documentation (http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTATION/AppleApplications/Conceptual/Dashboard_ProgTopics/CopyAndPaste.html#/ /apple_ref/doc/uid/30001234) but haven't had any luck.

Any and all help would be appreciated!
