Re: Why am I being ignored?

Hi Bill,

On Oct 16, 2003, at 3:08 PM, email@hidden wrote:

Why have repeated requests for information on dual session disk been
ignored? In the past couple months I've posted several requests for
information, similar to the "Multiple sessions on ISO/Joliet CD (Bryan
Lund)" message (that was promptly responded to), and have received NO
feedback, from Apple or elsewhere. Is my question improperly formed or
something?

Message titles ignored include:

"Dual Session Audio and Data (email@hidden)"
"MultiSession Audio/9660 (email@hidden)"
"Blue Book and Disc at Once (DAO) (email@hidden)"

I've reached a conclusion that there is a bug in the OS, still unresolved
as of 10.2.7, with burning ISO dual session disks (Blue Book). It would
certainly be helpful to my work if I could know if this is something
being addressed or if this is never going to be doable with the
DiscRecording framework.

I don't want to sound paranoid, but why are some requests answered and
other not?

It's not deliberate, anyway ... we're not out to get you. :-) On <http://lists.apple.com/>, where you go to sign up for mailing lists:

While Apple employees monitor the lists, Apple doesn't guarantee that questions will be answered. The mailing lists are not a replacement for formal support or bug reporting procedures. The lists are used for informal communication and Apple cannot commit to fixes or responses to postings on any of the mailing lists.

Apple employees try to read the lists and answer questions, but there aren't any guarantees on what will get read and answered, or when. Sometimes messages slip through the cracks.

For a variety of reasons, the past two months have been busy and the DiscRecording and DTS engineers on the list (including myself) haven't had as much time to spend on the mailing lists. That's why informal mailing lists are no substitute for formal support.

Speaking of formal support, it's worth noting to everyone that there are two ways to do it. Any sort of help can be obtained with DTS technical support incidents - see <http://developer.apple.com/products/techsupport/> - and formal bug reporting is described at <http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/>. Both of those have tracking processes in place to guarantee that a resolution is reached for all questions and problems, which can't be done on a mailing list.

We'll try to help on mailing lists, but everyone has different areas of technical expertise and there are times when the right person to answer the question simply might not be reading the lists.

I'd like to know if I'm barking up the wrong tree, either in what I'm
asking for or who I'm asking it from.

No, I think you've just been unlucky. :-/ I will try to post answers to the above-referenced emails tonight.
