One small Panther disc erase issue.

Hello,

First, thanks to Mike Shields and everyone else who licked the bug dealing with erase procedures not sending their finish notification properly when run during modal dialogs. I just wish the fix could be back-applied to OS X 10.2.x, though I understand why it'll just be a Panther fix.

Now that I finally have a copy, I've noticed two things different about OS X 10.3's erase procedure handling. First, I noticed that after a disc is erased that I now have to explicitly use a releaseMediaReservation to make the freshly-erased media available to my and other applications. No sweat, I think it's nice to formally declare that.

The second things I've noticed is that when inserting a blank CD-RW into a drive while a DREraseSetupPanel is shown, it consistently indicates that: 'The disc is reserved for exclusive use by another application.' If I first insert a piece of blank CD-RW media, let the Finder/System ignore it and then call a DREraseSetupPanel, it treats the media normally and allows it to be erased. Non-blank CD-RW media work exactly as expected, only previously-erased media bring this condition out.

I've tried using acquireExclusiveAccess and acquireMediaReservation when my DREraseSetupPanel is called, to no avail. Is this a bug, or should I be acquiring the lock on this media manually? If so, what's the proper treatment I should be using?

Thanks all.

Best,

Steve Elliott
