for you, it works, and that's fine. For us, with the type of material we
produce, which is a mid-end (16 x 9, shot on D-9, lots of variation in types
of material, including lots of motion, plus stills from very old archival
material, and motion graphics, well, it isn't good enough. motion artifacts,
the odd interlace issue with 720 x 486 material, gamma shifts, etc. These
things ARE NOT acceptable to a professional. We color correct our work
carefully for a reason. I don't like losing all of that work. And I can't
ship DVDs to clients if those discs have artifacts. The Apple encoder is
okay for low-end DV acquired material. It's not good enough for what we
produce.
