Re: DLT

I think all the drives mechs themselves are made by Quantum but don't hold
me to that. Also, 98% of all the DLT tape probably comes from the same spool
too :-)

Check out http://www.dlttape.com/products/ (for all your DLT questions,
great site)

You can find a DLT4000 drive for under $1,500. I'd personannly spend more
and find a DLT7000 (way faster) or better yet DLT8000 (a little faster than
the 7000). Check out all the specs at
http://www.quantum.com/Products/Quantum+l+DLTtape/Default.htm

As a side note: DLT Super Drives (SDLT220) are now available (impressive
220GB at 22MB per second - compressed). NOT good for DVD replication as they
are:
1) overkill in capacity
2) not likely to be found at replicators
3) Can read TypeIV carts but only write to SLDT tapes which are much more
expensive than the typeIII cartridges commonly used for DVD.
