Re: What kind of encoder did they use for ?

Hi there:

A " Bug's Life" was almost certainly encoded using incredibly
expensive Variable Bit Rate hardware, hardware that would
undoubtedly seem outdated today. However, the reason why CGI
created movies look so sharp and colorful has little to do with
"encoding". The original film was a computer generated project
created pixel by pixel with absolute perfection. A magnificent
example of Quality In, Quality Out. Even if they had encoded a
"Bug's Life" on a Macintosh using DVD Studio Pro most consumers
would not have been able to tell the difference (noticed I said
consumers).
Some people will tell you there is a huge difference between
encoders and would engage on lengthy techno babble as to why, but
you will notice they themselves can not agree on ONE solution.
This is due to the well documented fact that humans if asked for
a opinion they would most certainly give you one, even if they
have no idea of what they are talking about.
The same thing that occurred with "desktop publishing" 10 years
ago, there was an initial natural fear and distrust on the part
of the traditional Typographers, fear they would loose their jobs
to a little Mac on every home, and guess what, they were right,
they lost their jobs. So when they die and go to heaven they will
probably complain to God, "why have you forsaken us, to which God
will reply, "what do you mean? I sent you a Macintosh"

The nature of technology is it gives power to the masses and
takes it away from the "pros".

I can't wait till the computer replaces attorneys...can't be too
long now. :-)

In conclusion, put all your money on the quality of your
production and the bit rates will take care of themselves. :-)
