Re: Unknown file type

Frederick,

If all you want to do is use your MPEG-1 files in a DVD, just leave them as is. Converting them to MPEG-2 is not going to make them any better, and MPEG-1 files are fully compliant for DVD use (if normal bit rates). A dvd player will scale them to full screen on playback. Just import them into DSP.

bill

Hey guys i havent gotten any response regarding these questions. Can anyone
give me a hand
with this stuff? Ive got a couple more additional questions now too. Ive got
some mpeg1 clips that
i can open and play with Quicktime Player, yet when i open them in Final Cut
Pro 2.0 i end up with
garbled video. Is there any reason for this? What i would like to do idealy
is decompress them
into AVI files which i can then export into MPEG2 and use in DSP. Does this
make any sense? And
nobody has responded regarding the use of VOB files in DSP... is this possible
or not? Is there any
possibilities that these files do not contain vital information that a Mac
requires as they were created
originally on a pc, i would have thought that mpeg is mpeg and it wouldnt
matter where they originated.

You want to take compressed mpegs, add codec artifacts converting to QT,
then recompress to Mpeg-2 (and scale them as well?)

Why?

MPeg-1 files are multiplexed. You need to export the video from QT pro, and
grab the audio using a third party utility the name of which I can't
remember. Then recombine with QT player pro. Then export to Mpeg-2.

Basically, it's going to look like crap.

So just to summarize this then, there is no way for me to do this without it looking like crap?
Am i wasting my time? Some mpeg2 clips i have also wont read, is this probably because
they arent in a dvd compliant format?

Thanks
