They edit on Avid Film composer or Lightworks, (compressed)
and then produce an EDL for what final frames they want rendered.
unlike traditional filmmaking, the editing, animation, compositing and
sound effects
all tend to happen around the same time. Take a look at the Region 1
Collectors edition DVD
