quality testable?

Hi everyone,

In my never ending battle to understand a product completely before I
purchase, I'm still holding off on the purchase of DSP. It's more than
likely that i'll buy it, but I do have another question:

My previous question regarded quality - could you make a trade, when
burning a dvd - quality for time, and the answer was yes. So I can get a
longer dvd at the expense of some quality.

My next question is this: Is there a way to view the quality before you
burn. I have to assume (and correct me if I'm wrong) that even if i can
play the encoded file on my monitor, it can't be exactly what it will
look like on a tv and that could make a big difference.

could any of you DSP users tell me how you view your output on a tv
before actually having to burn (and possibly waste) a DVD-R disc? - or if
this is even possible.

thanks
