Encoder false memory Message

I just bought DVDSP at the NAB convention. But when I try to encode my
Quicktimes to MPEG-2 I get a memory message "There is not enough memory to
encode."

But there is enough memory - 190 MB free. I allocated much much more than
recommended to Quicktime player and to DVDSP to no avail. Then I notice in
the system requirements it says that DVDSP will not work with first
generation G4's with the PCI graphics card. I have the first gen. G4 and I
speciaically asked at the Apple booth at NAB if my box can run DVDSP - and I
was told that not only can I run it, but that that board actually ran DVDSP
better than the newer graphics card. So I hope that is not it.

Apple's web site does not facilitate answering specific questions. They
repeatedly point me to their FAQ's on DVDSP, which do not address this memory
message. And they offer no phone number for support.

Any clues?
