button sound fx - how the hell ?

mates,

since i have found no way to do it and heve never seen it on a commercial
DVD i had concluded that you cannot attach sound fx to button selections
prior to activation (y'know beeps / clicks etc...).

BUT i recently watched a PlayStation2 DVD extra and the menu selections all
had click sounds.

how the hell is that done...
