DVD Pro and reading files

I have DVD Studio Pro 1, but it's overkill for most of my projects so far so I
use iMovie and iDVD. But I thought I'd try to cut one movie into eight for a DVD
project so there would be some navigation and the steps in iMovie weren't
apparent to me at the time. They are now, I split the movie at the playhead and
saved each movie, one at a time in DV format. That worked but it seemed like a
lot of steps considering I already had the original in DV format.

I tried to open the movie in DVD Studio and it wouldn't recognize the file. Am I
missing something? I clicked "Import" and found the same file iDVD and iMovie
found, but it was gray and I couldn't open it.

If I had got it open would it have been easy to split it into eight smaller
movies so I could have navigation on my DVD? Is there a way to do that so I don't
have double the size? I now have the full movie so people can watch it straight
through and eight smaller movies they can navigate, but I wonder if I couldn't
have just referenced the larger movie somehow. In this project it didn't make a
big difference because the main movie was only ten minutes long, but for an
educational title with two hours of video, it would be great to just make buttons
which referenced segments of the large movie. Is this possible?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!
