Well, not quite true - DVDSP can handle any encode rate that produces
viewable MPEG streams, as long as the encoder makes proper stream files.

You SHOULD be able to do this at 4.5 Mbps - if you use Dolby Digital AC3 @ 192K

Perry - for sure, reduce your audio bandwidth needs by using A.Pack
to compress inot AC3.

Once you exceed the video capabilities of the QuickTime Software encoder,
you usually start looking around for a hardware card capable of
better results - choices? these, for Mac:

Digital Media Press (only 2,4,6,8,Mbps CBR from DV)
Media Press Pro - Composite, Component encoding from video tape or QT movie $3K
Media Press Pro SDI - same, but with SDI, AES-EBU inputs, $6K about
Sonic SD-1000 - SDI in out - high quality encoder $10,000!

in order of expense..
