Re:Best Encoding Quality

Hi I'm new to the list so I'm sure this has come up before.
I'm making DVDr's on a MacG4.
Whats the very best way to get MPG2 quality from BetacamSP.
I've been digitizing from Media100 5.5
Encoding animation codec or media100 codec
Converting it in QuickTime pro 5.0.2 or Cleaner at 9.8 bit rate
It doesn't look as good as a VHS dub from Betacam.
'Is this as good as it gets'!
Is the 9.8 b Bit Rate the very best encoding quality, or are the BR numbers
higher using a different system?
Now I know that 5.6 BR is what one should use to play on computer DVD's but what
about regular DVD r players? I assume the BR can be higher to 19+.
I would prefer Hollywood quality MPG2
I heard that the Sonics encoding board is better
than Media press kit which I thinks it isn't been sold by Media100 any more, but
not sure.

Is it better to get MPG2 made from BetacamSP using a encoding board ?
Is there any other solution?

I should add that I'm still at 640x480 pixels Media100 component which might be
part of the problem.
I have tried to increase the size using After Effects to 720x486 pixels.

I'm sure there are a lot of other users that share my concern over the quality of
DVD encoding and the misconception that DVD means high quality.

Thanks
