[Fed-Talk] anti-virus solutions

As we replace windows machines with Mac workstations the question has come up about virus protection. We can always hope OS X will be virus free, but as word gets out the GOVT is using them some "fight the power" hacker will probably write one.

Not to mention we still share the same word and excel docs with the windows users which can get viruses.

Any recommendations on what would be a good platform to roll out? I'd like one that isn't going to kill performance, and must be compatible with Tiger.

Virex has been very poor, terrible features and causes more problems than it's worth. Nortons receives the worst rating of all the scanners, and makes the system slow and somewhat unreliable.

I do believe, and always have, that the argument of "there are no viruses for OS X because there aren't enough users" is a crock.

Apache is the most widely used web server and there have been little to no problems and hacks reported and/or found. It's a superior web server.

I believe this to be the case with OS X and Linux as well - it's a superior OS, therefore exploits are not as likely due to the solid infrastructure of the programming.

Any suggestions appreciated - thanks!
mike
