Is there a way to digitally sign a PDF file - similar to how we digitally sign email messages?

I am getting ready to publish a document in PDF and I want to make sure that it is not modified at all, or at least to make sure that the user can verify that it is the authentic document I created.

The commercial product for the digital signing of PDF documents would be Acrobat, however, Adobe uses Entrust Technology embedded in Acrobat which does not interact with the built in PKI of Mac OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x.

If you are an agency/division running Mac OS X 10.4 and using built in Smart Card Services you can send the document via a Signed email message - ensures integrity of contents sent by sender. This does NOT imply document signing, but the attachment is part of the signed message -- integrity validated. Once the document is removed from the message, the integrity validation would be lost.
