[Fed-Talk] Macs and OSX in Navy

-----Original Message-----
I then help these engineers and department heads realize that the
Government doesn't mandate Microsoft and that their Commanders want them
to have the right tool for the job. On an ever-increasing basis, OSX is
the right tool.

You don't work for the Navy, do you?

As a matter of fact, nearly every site I visit in Europe is Navy and besides DoD directly, my European Navy contacts have purchased more OSX systems than any other. Though my office is on an Army post, I am independent of any branch and work directly for DoD. Also, other Navy sites in Europe have spec'd XServes but are waiting budget.

Ah, no I didn't think so. For all intents and purposes, the Navy mandates Microsoft. And I recently heard the contract with EDS (NMCI) will be in place until at least 2010. If it doesn't say "Dell" on it, and it doesn't run Windows, it doesn't exist to the Navy.

This is completely false.
