Re: [Fed-Talk] Question from a non-techie

Unfortunately for some it appears the macBook has an iSight. A lot of Gov people won't be able to get it I think.

Apple will not confirm I'm sure, but there has been talk that the new Macs "might" be able to dual-boot into a different OS. If this happens, you could boot into Windows for email and such and then boot up the Mac OS for productive work.

One thing puzzles me about the Windows/Mac conflict in the Government... For almost everything we do to defend our country, we have multiple "backups," (e.g. we don't buy ammo for our weapons from only one vendor, we don't buy batteries from one source, fuel from one plant, etc., etc., etc...) Yet, there are those out there who would have us use only one operating system... What happens when there truly is some sort of computer "super virus" and 99% of our desktop systems are infected?

Isn't it a bad thing to have any one OS (either Mac or Windows) as the almost sole OS in the military/government environment? I know that in a perfect world, we can save money by standardizing on one OS, but it isn't a perfect world. I hope that time doesn't show us that the IT managers who are forcing us to use Windows aren't as short sited as the Government agencies that knew we had terrorists taking flight lessons, and so forth. I know the Mac community will certainly be able to stand up after some tragedy happens and say, "We Told You!," too bad someone isn't listening now...

Okay. If this is a ridiculous question, please just roll your eyes and delete!

Will the new intel Macs make interoperating in this Windows world any easier for us? I understand there are major differences in the OS and all, just wondering. Cause it's really getting frustrating here hanging on to my Mac and having to kludge for email and such.
