Re: [Fed-Talk] New MacBooks - can camera come out?

Folks,

It seems to me that there is some over reacting here based on the (perhaps overly restrictive) ADP security policies of a few DoD organizations. I work at the Navy's lead lab for C4ISR R&D - a 4500 person organization doing a range of unclassified to TS/SCI work located on a military base in San Diego. I carry a cell phone with a camera and use my PowerBook with functioning 802.11b every day in my office and around the campus (obviously not in the secure lab spaces).

So there is no sign outside your base prohibiting these items?

We have a nice big one for the public to see.

We have similar signs posted at the entrances to our building, but they obviously include items that are not being actively enforced. For instance, our sign indicates that no one on base may have a cell phone, with or without camera. Yet it is clear from NRL security announcements that cell phones are fine in unclassified areas, which leads one to question what good the signs are.
