I have been using my CAC for e-mail and Safari quite successfully for quite a while. I just upgraded a couple of months ago to the MacBook Pro. Lately, I've been having a problem with my CAC keychain entry disappearing from my keychain after having the computer up for quite a while, or after the computer wakes up.
Relogging in doesn't bring it back up. I must restart the computer to get the CAC to reappear in the keychain.

Look at the crashlogs in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter or maybe /Users/ name//Library/Logs/CrashReporter.

The best time to do this is when your CAC stops working, if you look in those directories find out which crashlogs are the newest, that may be the problem program which you can then report to Apple via the Bug Reporter at <https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/ RadarWeb.woa> (you have to create an Apple Developer ID but that is free, just follow the right link or try to go directly to <http:// connect.apple.com/>

There is a good chance that in the first location you will find a log file for pcscd or maybe in the second.

Also, if you open the terminal and type "ps -acux | grep pcs" when you first reboot you should see a line for pcscd and when the CAC stops working you may not see that line anymore, if that is true then it is pcscd that is crashing.

I'm not sure about which other components of the OS are involved in the CAC that might stop working.

Generally speaking nothing gets fixed if no one reports that it is broken and everyone assumes someone else will.

On this list there may have been previous reports of the CAC system failing on the Intel Macs.
