!!EXCEPT: I still can't get the "global" address book (LDAP settings) to
work. Nothing I have tried in terms of naming the server, overriding the
port, etc seems to work. I am pretty sure it is just a configuration problem
(wrong server, wrong port, wrong ssl or no, all the above, etc). And, if
someone would only give me the correct information, it would work also. But
I am not getting much help from my DOIM (when queried, they gave me an IPA
for the old 5.5 server as the LDAP server; I knew that wasn't right [I put
it in anyway, and of course it didn't work]).

With Exchange2k, the GAL moved to the global catalog, which need not be the same server as the Exchange server. Plus it runs on port 3268. Plus you need to know the base DN where to start searching for mail users.

So I'd start by asking your CSA/WGM where the GC server is. Or if you're comfortable with dig or nslookup, you can figure it out yourself by querying for GC SRV records in DNS. :)
