RE: [Fed-Talk] NSA Hardening Tips for Snow Leopard

The Mac OS X 10.6 Security Guide is published by Apple and contains
Apple's best practices for hardening Snow Leopard... The NSA Tips for
Hardening OS X 10.6 is a NSA publication and is geared towards their
needs. That is where the inconsistency originates.

Both are excellent reading though - it's always interesting to see how
NSA recommends securing an OS.

There is some inconsistency between what this recommends and what is in
the Mac OSX Security Config guide.

If you are securing a computer for non-network use in a closed space,
some of the changes are unnecessary.

Still needs a thorough look through of both things.

My 2 cents.

Found NSA's "Hardening Tips for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard" today while
checking FAQ links:

http://www.nsa.gov/ia/_files/factsheets/macosx_10_6_hardeningtips.pdf

"The following trifold contains, in order of importance, high- impact
tips
designed for use by an administrative user of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow
Leopard."

Looks like a two page digest of the most important parts of Apple's 272
page "Mac OS X Security Configuration For Mac OS X Version 10.6 Snow
Leopard", that includes both security settings and good behavior
information.
