Yes, and USB 2.0 actual is able to pass one (1 only) DV quality video signal from camera or player to a Wintel host ... as long as there are not any other devices (hubs or whatever) in the circuit.

FireWire 1394a can do this easily and lots more = up to four (4) DV quality video data streams over a single 1394a cable. Checkout the Unibrain FW cameras ... daisy chain four of these and view all four videos at once on your Mac or Wintel PC. Check out the LaCie FW hard drive demonstrations at this years (or last years) CES show: four drives, daisy chained, connected to one host port via 1 1394a cable, viewing four Quicktime movies in four windows ... all at once ... all at DV quality.

These are the advantages of: ... peer to peer networking (FireWire) vs. top down topography (master / slave USB) ... and double duplex FireWire 1394a vs. single duplex USB 2.0 (4 wire vs. 2 wire) ... and the FireWire bulk file transfer with xxx-synchronous "hand shaking"

I hate to point it out, but Microsoft and many others already have a DV type protocol specified and released. It has been available and implemented since Windows XP SP1.

It looks most comprehensive and even has a DV payload format intended to make it easier for camera vendors to switch their hardware.
