Well, the good news is that it would have been easy. The bad news is that LG3D depends on Java 3D 1.4, which hasn't been ported to the Mac, so you'd have to start by porting it.

Early releases of LG3D relied on Java 3D 1.3.2 and could run on the Mac by hacking the source code to allow it run on Java 3D 1.3.1, although it probably didn't work very well because of a transparency sorting bug in 1.3.1.

Unfortunately, Apple appears to have no interest in maintaining Java 3D for the Mac. To quote a recent posting by a Sun engineer to the Project Looking Glass mailing list: "Apple seem to have no interest in updating their Java 3D port, they simply refuse to respond to our email etc."

Java 3D is open source so a new port to the Mac could be done without Apple's help.

You can read a recent thread on the Java 3D mailing list about porting to the Mac here:

Best wishes,
Michael.
