Java applet display in MacOSX IMAP mail client?

I'm looking for an IMAP mail client that will display Java applets in
HTML-formatted mail messages, using Java 1.4.2 or 1.5.  I've tried
Apple Mail (10.3.9, 10.4.2) and Thunderbird (10.3.9); neither seems to
work.  But perhaps there's some application property value that has to
be set?  Or perhaps there's some other client that will do this?
Anyone know?
