It doesn't. Intentionally.
If I were doing this, I'd probably use /usr/bin/say, unless I had a need to
be compatible with ye older OS that lacketh yon command. Then I'd use
osascript and the 'say' verb.
If you're doing this on a series of speeches, I think you can exec()
/usr/bin/say in parallel, writing to separate files. It's certainly
capable of speaking text concurrently, but there might be a restriction on
writing files.
