Some Java classes that would preserve and set the "bundle bit" are the I/O
classes in my open source MacBinary Toolkit for Java:

You may find some of the other capabilities useful, too, such as Unix-style
privileges and owner ID's.

All the source should recompile on a Linux box, though there's little
reason since the distro includes a JAR. See the info on rebuilding:
