Thread crahes on my mac

I was wondering how long a thread can be on a mac. I've made this applet which loops a function over and over again. But when I write too much code in it the whole computer freezes when I try to run the applet. I've tried the same code on another platform but that seemed to work. It also works if I split the code up to several functions.
