Starting java appications

I have been thinking more about the thread from last week about getting
.jars to be "double-clickable" items in the Finder. At first I didn't
see the advantage of "souble-clickable" jars over packaged apps.
However, I have changed my mind about this issue. I have noticed that
.sh items are also not clickable, even though an article (I don't have
the URL handy) on apple's site at one point promised this functionality
in the 10.0.1 release.

Not only are .sh files not "double-clickable," but from my attempts, I
have not been able to get Terminal.app to launch scripts via Applescript
(another function promised but not yet received). So far, the only way
I have been able to "double-click" an app is to package it with
MRJAppBuilder. This seems a shame when:
1) applescript
2) Application types and
3) .jar file clicking

should all work.

This has struck a spark in my thinking: Is Apple trying to "force"
developers to package their java apps like "normal" (or maybe
normalized) applications? Or is it simply a lack of polish on the OS
that will be fixed in upcoming releases?
