I would like to know the plan of Apple about the implementation of
Java3D for MacOS X ? When will it be available ?
Thanks in advance for any information.

On WWDC2001 Feedback Session an Apple employee mentioned that they
had Java3D running internally but there is nothing to announce yet.
So we'll have to wait and see.

Aus you can read on http://www.pepsan.com/macosx/java.html#java3d

If Apple wants to regain marketshare in the education market then
Java3D is a point that might count since a lot of scientific
software and simulations are developed with Java3D.

I totally agree.

I have tried to "push" some of our Apple contacts on the matter but
they either have no say or after passing on the request are told to
tell us to watch and wait. If Apple does not bring out JAVA3D for
MacOS soon I know of several groups who will decide to buy new Linux
boxes instead of MacOS X boxes. I am sure that there are plenty of
other researchers out there that feel this way.

Keep the faith brothers and sisters. I am sure the light at the
end of the tunnel is nigh =:>

Hmm, that remark about the Apple employee sparks and brightens that light again. An experienced Java3D-engineer on Windoze boxes myself I decided to switch to Mac OS X for private business and in-future Mac OS X/Java3D development; Java3D wasn't there on introduction but seeing Apple on the founder-list of Java3D, I had faith it would be there in some foreseeable future, to no avail ... til this day and after ...

But, following the rumours and more fact-based saying here and there I also believe the end is neigh; to me it seems there are some blocking technical problems in Mac OS X/Java, optimizations that need to be done in order for Java3D to ever happen; considering the work that's been done until now and the contributions to the public development-
morality/majority of Java-engineers I have no doubt they're working very hard getting things done. Kudos again to Apple!

But, that said, some more information, future plans on Java3D would be nice ... the world is waiting for Java3D:
