Re: Mac OS X Java Performance - Boost it using GreenTea

According to the Usenet spam, it's a distributed system, the perfect place to embed spyware--who's going to check each and every transmission to see whether it's really required for the task at hand? Indeed, how can you really tell whether it's doing only what you wanted, or is sucking up cycles for its own nefarious purposes?

| Does anyone follow any other java lists/forums where this kind of
| "advertising" is posted on a regular basis? And always from an

Usenet is getting spammed, too. Searching Google for the domain name yields:

Jul 14 comp.distributed
Jun 23 comp.parallel
Jun 23 comp.parallel.pvm
Jun 23 comp.theory
Jun 23 comp.software-eng
May 31 comp.distributed
May 30 comp.lang.java.softwaretools
May 27 comp.parallel
May 23 comp.distributed
May 23 comp.parallel.mpi
Apr 24 comp.distributed
Feb 13 comp.os.research
Feb 11 comp.parallel.pvm
Jan 22 comp.arch
Jan 22 comp.distributed

All this year, and all from John at email@hidden. The ones I bothered to read past the e-mail address all purported to be recommendations from a satisfied user. (There are a couple of older posts, too, to Microsoft newsgroups, one to microsoft.public.vc.mfc, from a John Shea at email@hidden, and one to microsoft.public.dotnet.distributed_apps from a John at email@hidden [clearly a transitional item from clearly-identified grc.com address to the anonymous hotmail one. Amusingly, grc.com itself deals in firewall software and the like--software to *prevent* your computer from being used in a distributed fashion.)

"Csheer" has also spammed the Sun Java forums, and a Google general search for the name "csheer" uncovered this gem (from http://www.beowulf.org/pipermail/beowulf/2003-July/007297.html):

| Sorry about this obvious no-content marketing shill...
| This person subscribed and immediately posted this message.
| A quick search shows the same type of marketing on many other mailing
| lists, usually posing as a unrelated user e.g.
| https://mailer.csit.fsu.edu/pipermail/java-for-cse/2001/000013.html
| BTW Greg, this person is actually Chris Xie, a marketing person at the
| company.

Definitely a candidate for the Wrath of the List Admin.
