RE: Mac OS X Java Performance - Java3D

I am not sure I can run with some of the points u dudes are conveying.

I have made a few postproduction applications using MacOSX Java1.3.1 and
also 1.4.1 and have not had any hassle. That's 16:9 and 4:3 output in
real-time (33.3fps)- with integrated 5:1 audio (today I added 8:1
audio).

Ok I didn't use AWT or SWING drawing (but that's slow everywhere- have u
seen it draw on Irix? That's slow). WWDC showed some tricks to speed
stuff up in AWT and SWING but I don't see it flying the frame rate just
yet. I use JOGL now, and used the cool gl4java before 1.4 days.

So if u need speed then its out there. When it comes to Java3D- I would
also like the see a scene graph API (mine is a tad simple). I have
started to look at 'Xith3D' [http://xith3d.dev.java.net/] as Scott
covered. I have indeed looked into Java3D but I would also like to play
with the Dark Side under the hood of OpenGL. ARB and Cg all works cool
on MacOSX. And they look fantastic!

I would recommend anyone interested in this area come over to the JOGL
forums and help out - even if its just testing it on your hardware. It
will then show that Apple Developers what a 3D also.
