I'd like to point out that the statement below is false. Apple is not the only platform that must "bear the brunt." The FreeBSD project also must port the sun code to the freebsd platform. Apple is way ahead of FreeBSD. In fact, FreeBSD group can't even release binaries of any Java 2 jdk yet.
Sun ports java to platforms it likes or considers important. I bet they wouldn't support linux except that they are using it on some server products.
Sun doesn't make money on java, only selling computers. (most people don't buy their ide or server products) Why waste money porting?
