I'd like to point out that the statement below is false. Apple is not the only platform that must "bear the brunt." The FreeBSD project also must port the sun code to the freebsd platform. Apple is way ahead of FreeBSD. In fact, FreeBSD group can't even release binaries of any Java 2 jdk yet.We're beginning to whip the greasy spot in the pavement where the dead horse used to be, but I can't help mentioning that there is no technical reason that the FreeBSD Java folk haven't released Java 2 binaries. In fact, there is a port in the ports tree for 1.4 and it builds and works just fine (I've built and used it more than once). The only thing holding up a binary release is Sun's licensing requirements, which IMHO represent an unreasonably high barrier to open source projects.
