jogl is a very promising project

it has SUN's support and AFAIK Apple's engineers are working on it
I just don't know either voluntarily or officially or both :-)

I hope that SUN will implement java3d on top of the jogl
so java3d will be pure java api and people will stop crying about
java3d <-> mac os x relationship :-)
