Are you writing the Java app, the Carbon app, or both? In other words, is
either one of the apps an unmodifiable black box, which must be accomodated
as-is?

Is one app or the other always the initiator, or can "commands" go both ways?

How plausible is a faceless intermediary process, whose sole purpose in
life is to translate between the Java app's preferred communication
mechanism and the Carbon app's preferred mechanism? Hypothetical example:
a network socket for the Java app that goes to and from Apple Events for
the Carbon app.
