What's wrong with GPL?
I have a little trouble at times myself understanding the differing preferences in licensing.
GPL is more restrictive. It says that if you add something to the software, you must release it under the GPL. This keeps the software "free", but restrains the freedom of humans.
BSD is less restrictive. It says that you can do anything you like with the software, including redistribute modified versions for profit, as long as you tell people who wrote the code you used.
Personally, I prefer BSD.
Freedom is more important for people than software.
