We've had a similar interest in such a compiler. We would like to see
something like Excelsior JET (http://www.excelsior-usa.com), but it's
not available for OSX. Thus GCJ is the best bet so far. The nice thing
about Excelsior JET is it appears to compile your Swing based classes
too.

Although we haven't tried GCJ yet for our OSX ports, it is in our plan
to do so.
