audio capture

I was about to embark on an application that involves audio capture and couldn't get JMF to work. The QT for Java bindings seem to work, but I'm not familiar with the framework. Is there a good FAQ about doing audio on osx and/or the pros and cons of JMF versus QT for Mac multimedia development?
