How fine a distinction are you making by decoding "mrj.version"?

I ask because I would have picked "os.name" and "os.version" to select ways
of launching a browser. For example, I think the 'open' command works
across a wide range of Mac OS X versions, which means that many individual
versions of "mrj.version" map to one way.

Frankly, I gave up relying solely on any predefined properties a long time
ago. It was too flaky and/or too inflexible. Instead, I have a
config-file (typically in Properties format) that is part of the
application's install. I edit it as needed for a specific platform
deployment.
