Ok, so I can see your bug. For me, it happens about 1 time in 20 drags.
If I change to Swing components, the frequency seems to drop a little
further, to maybe 1 in 50, but that may just be illusionary on my part.
Sometimes I can never get it to give an exception. The only
consequence, however, is that the drag is not accepted. Subsequent
drags continue to work fine. I really don't see how this could have
broken any applications, but maybe you're seeing a different
consequence?
This appears to be a serious, wide-stretching bug. It
has broken my application, B*Gallery, and has
apparently broken others, like Photo Street, JAlbum,
etc.
So if it were me, I would report the bug with Apple again, and forget
about it. Only Apple can fix it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it
just gets fixed as a consequence of some other structural changes they
are in the middle of. Since the consequences of this exception are
minimal, they have no impetus to make it a high priority.
below is a sample program that illustrates the problem
I mentioned with DND in 1.4.2 update 2. Run it and
drag files onto the component and every few times it
will fail with an exception. It happens in my Swing
app too with a jtree and much more complex D&D, so it
is good to see it happens in such a simple application
as well. Again, I'm not quite sure how some people
are apparently not having this problem. I think it
is bug 3824121, but with no way to look it up, who
knows!
