You can write your own minimal applet context for running applets that would
work 1.1 to 1.5 and could be used for debugging.
Uh, yes I have grabbed one of those from somewhere. Called it the 'run'
command for my application. Originally off of Javaworld as I remember, the
original might still be found there. Probably not as full featured a applet
hosting environment as a browser or appletviewer but no one has ever
requested me to add anything to mine.
