Re: Dashboard effect in Java application

For a more compelling cube effect, have a look at this page:

  http://www.kaon.com/software/swmeson2.html

(switch demos using the arrows to see the cube effect.) And yes, the 3D scenes projected on the side of the cube are actually being rendered. (Try moving the logo off axis, wait a beat, then switch demos -- you'll see the logo return to original orientation while the cube is spinning...)

Of course, we don't give away the source for this, but it should act as inspiration for further improving the performance of your effects! ;)

Thanks to Dmitry who sent me the optimized version I updated the code.
Now it run smoother.
Only my example has a panel a little bigger than the original Dmitry example, so it is a little slower.
I have observed that increasing the panel size has a huge effect on the speed, obviously.

I am a little lost in this regard, but is it opengl accelerated on proper machines? I forgot the actual status of hardware acceleration on swing panels actually.....

The updates code is again at:

The old version with the RGB.
Where is the new one?
In the Dmitry link?
I will check out. In case it should be a quick modification, as I didn't touch the rendering part.
