Re: Determine appearance settings

> Why not?

Because Java provides a better and more elegant solution to determine the
colors of GUI objects.

--- snip ---
A class to encapsulate symbolic colors representing the color of native GUI
objects on a system. For systems which support the dynamic update of the
system colors (when the user changes the colors) the actual RGB values of
these symbolic colors will also change dynamically.
--- snip ---

As Tim already mentioned, it's more a hack than an elegant way.

You surely remember the modifications of the aqua buttons look from Jaguar
to Panther? Future changes of the aqua look may cause a wrong behavior in my
components.

Hoping that apple will change this issue in the next java release. :)

Have a nice weekend.
