Re: Largest Java VM size

I tried various -Xmx settings on a 3.5GB G5 and found my ImageJ program would not run with -Xmx set to more that 1.8GB. JVMs on Windows have a similar maximum memory limitation.

I know it's off-topic for this list, but the limit in Windows is not really very "similar". Using the latest JVM, Windows 2K will let you get at about 1.4GB, and XP will only let you at about 1.1GB. Haven't tried Win2003 yet. (Note that I tried some of the tricks that let user processes get at 3GB on Windows, instead of just 2GB, and none of them let it get beyond these pathetic heap sizes.)

If you want to try this yourself, the easiest way is to just type:

java -Xmx1900M -version

(that's the most I can get to on a G4 running 10.3).
